birds back

Karl and I went to Arabella’s Family Restaurant in Sheboygan yesterday.  I love these old cities by Lake Michigan, including Chicago and Milwaukee from years gone by.  Many lifelong memories.

As we walked towards the garage earlier at home, I thought of this poem from another year:

in the backyard
birds back
and singing
never too old
to find this new

A Glorious Spring

drawings-of-flowers-3

Spring is surely worth waiting for, and it was a long wait this year.  Karl and I drove to favorite family restaurants last weekend, in part to see the flowering fruit trees everywhere.  We go to Judi’s Place here in Oostburg every week.

Looks like there will be an abundance of fruit this year.  Dutter’s Gibbsville Orchard, in Sheboygan Falls, is especially lovely.  The apple trees look ancient, and they are well-pruned, and full of new blossoms.

Our favorite restaurants survived the economic downturn.  They are so generous, and we love the leftovers.  We’ve been seeing the same owners and people who work there for years.   Some have changed their hours, to fit with when most of their customers visit.  This must be nice for those who work there too.  I rarely go out at night!  So good to be home, and rest and read.

The lilacs are amazing as well.  Inspired by many others, we planted white and purple bushes in the yard.

Thought I’d try an acrostic for LILACS.
