Listen to the leaves
of robin song
spill into the rain:

parched dreams expanding
and staining the
long afternoon with

poignant fragrances:
blending past and
hope with vibrant joy.

Quiet Christmas Poetry and Time Of Singing

Last year I shared how Karl and I created a large print chapbook from my site, Quiet Christmas Poetry.  The cover photo of the winter Lake Michigan beach is by Karl, and a favorite of readers here for some time.  Our book was printed by GT Graphics in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Under “Book Offers” in the Fall Time Of Singing, Lora Homan Zill, Editor, included a picture of the Christmas book and wrote: “Light and easy to hold, with large print, it is ideal for anyone battling or recovering from serious illness, or who needs a special word of encouragement over the holiday season.”  This was the goal, and we are grateful.

Please see Quiet Christmas Poetry for a picture and the same content is also there for free.

Lora Homan Zill’s site, with a blog, is the blue collar artist.

The large print Christmas book is only for sale at Time Of Singing.  Please see their books page if you wish more information.  All proceeds benefit this print journal.

Hope

This is a picture of the cover Charles A. Waugaman created for Welcoming Hope: Poems for those in need.  More information follows.  Charles lived on earth from 1932 – 2010.  When I think of his art, I feel HOPE.

This fall, I also hope to donate copies of Quiet Christmas Poetry to nursing homes and libraries.  I’ll be slowing down here, as I try to also share your favorite poems in large print books.

Welcoming Hope: Poems for those in need

One more book note in the spirit of National Poetry Month:

Welcoming Hope: Poems for those in need (2007, Elin Grace Publishing) is a poetry anthology we published with Time Of Singing: A Journal Of Christian Poetry.  There are poems by many poets.  Lora Homan Zill and I co-edited the book, and Charles A. Waugaman was the Art Editor and Illustrator.

This book is still in print and blessing other people.  It is the first book listed on the Time Of Singing books page, followed by the Christmas chapbook.  All proceeds benefit Time Of Singing.  I love the way blogs and print journals can support one another.

Over the years, I’ve been told that I have “the gift of encouragement.”  The goal of these books is to bring a few moments of beauty and hope to others.  All my work is collaboration, and it all takes time.  Even years.  Then years go by, and the work still feels new.  God’s grace.

Thank you, Ellen

Chapbook In-progress

On Easter And Spring Poetry, I created a work-in-progress page for the large print chapbook I’ve mentioned.  This morning I added this haiku, after my Easter acrostic.

colorful tulips

unconditional love

I think the manuscript is ready to rest now for a time.  Later this year, I’ll read with a new perspective and work with Karl on the print book, add more photos etc. I’ll want it to be similar in length and style to the book from Quiet Christmas Poetry.  The free online versions will stay available.
