after the storm

after the storm
blue sky and sun
on evergreens
covered with snow

I pray a few verses
from the Psalms
after the storm
and always

Thy statutes have been my songs
in the house of my pilgrimage.

Psalm 119: 54 (KJV)

winter storm Sunday

winter storm Sunday
a day to read poems
and enjoy the images,
language, and craft
with my heart

Today – and the following poems are from a past Spring. They were published together on one page in Time Of Singing.

Holy Week
lily flowers
wait to bloom

sometimes by sight
in my life of faith
apple trees in bloom

trusting God
a little more
with my questions
fog rests
on Spring fields

winter winds

winter winds
by Lake Michigan

grateful for
the most basic things
in life

shelter
warmth
water
light

the ability to walk
downstairs and
work in the kitchen

sit by the window
with a cup of coffee

fragrance of our
Christmas wreath

Haiku 2019

near the garage
on a cold March day
bird songs

morning clouds
and here and there
enough light for the lily

reading poetry
some blue sky among clouds
and forsythia

everything must be
perfect for them this year
irises everywhere

summer
early sun fills
a bouquet of flowers

reading haiku
the generous new growth
of evergreens

rain and
near my window
first daylilies bloom

early morning
hosta flowers grow
above the windowsill

Saturday morning
so happy with the plants
we bought on sale

peaceful morning
a prayer from childhood
still with me

Old Poem

November Wisconsin countryside
Bare trees elegant against the sky
Colors in the landscape muted now
October’s glory is gone
And love grows eternally

SMILE
(Fall/Winter 2008 – 09)

SMILE, a large print poetry journal, was edited and published by Joyce M. Johnson for many years.

Poem by Ellen Grace Olinger

Grace

gifts of small moments
when I read and write

in the middle of all
that happens every day

in our worlds
large and small

I am more than content
with what I have
and have achieved

goals revised
and rewritten for now

When my spirit
was overwhelmed within me,
then thou knewest my path.

Psalm 142: 3a (KJV)
