Poems: Wood

CLEAR AIR AND BLUE SKY

clear air and blue sky
work sounds in the neighborhood

shapes of light on painted walls,
books, wood walls

the art, music, poetry
of everyday life

RAIN AND WIND

rain and wind
flower petals
on the wood porch

PETALS ON WOOD

The daylilies in the vase
Are ending

       Petals drop on wood

I leave them
They express something poignant

       That words never could.

STRONG WINTER WINDS

strong winter winds
old wood in the house
ceilings, floors, walls
startling me in the early hours
speaking to me this day

resilience
strength

the way
Hope holds

THESE WOOD WALLS

these wood walls
shelter and add
so much beauty
to this cold day

and all days

others have lived
here too these
past decades

today I wonder
about the other
stories . . .

when the
trees were young

and grew tall
long before
I was born

and then became
this house and

they still seem
alive to me
